This one act opera was composed by Viktor Ullmann with a libretto by Peter Kien while both were interred at the Nazi concentration camp Terezín. It was allowed to be rehearsed in 1944, but was banned from performance because of its clear satire of Hitler. Ullmann and Kien both perished at Auschwitz.
